tyes.by.tara was founded with a spark of inspiration the moment she put on a lacy necktie from a naughty schoolgirl Halloween costume. She wanted to wear it everyday, not just on Halloween. At this moment, she saw the potential to create feminine pieces rooted in traditional menswear designs for everyday wear.
After being laid off of a hotel design firm in 2009, she decided to pursue this inspiration. She first visited several department stores and boutiques to satiate my growing desire to find the designs she had envisioned. But quickly found an opportunity lie before her.
Borrowing her mom’s old sewing machine, she sat down at her kitchen table and taught herself how to sew and make jewelry. She went to a fabric store for the first time and learned about all the different types of fabric, trims, embellishments and assembly techniques.
In the beginning, she focused on the bowtie and necktie, but as the concept continued to mature and gain popularity, she realized a breadth of creative possibilities. What began with two product categories quickly blossomed into a full line of jewelry, accessories and bridal products as well as a thriving business model that applied the latest trends to its products.
After years of research and product development, tyes.by.tara has become an award-winning, international company that can be found in upscale lingerie stores, national chains and independent boutiques.
All tyes are handmade in the USA. This intimate process makes each tye unique in it’s own right, much like the women who wear them.
